ACC ASCENDER STUDENTS ATTEND ART GALLERY PROGRAM

By Diana Gorostieta Martinez

On Monday, October 10, and Friday, October 14, Austin Community College Ascender students and mentors were invited to a special gallery program for the exhibition  Cultivating Community through Art: Sam Coronado’s Serie Project and its Continuing Legacy, hosted by The Art Galleries at ACC. In each session, they collectively chose an exhibit piece and wrote a “collaborative poem” where they shared their thoughts about the artwork. Lastly, they had the opportunity to learn about Sam Coronado’s life’s work, which included his grant-funded screen-printing program, other works by ACC Studio Art Faculty members, and his status as an icon in Austin’s Chicano art scene.
