STC Starr Campus Hosts Noche de Familia

By Intern Aly Ceballos

Ascender students from the Starr County Campus hosted Noche de Familia on the night of Thursday, November 9. It was an event to thank parents for supporting and encouraging their children to attend college and was created through the fundraiser the Ascender club did for the fall. Parents learned more information about the program, and what it provides for their children.

Dr. Cindy Y. Marroquin-Garza shared her story with the guests. She reminded students to never give up, no matter how hard things might get, and to always reach for their goals. Dr. Anna A. Alaniz thanked parents for their constant encouragement of their children and for giving up their day to celebrate Noche de Familia. Parents received guidance from her about the significance of encouraging and supporting their children to always give it their all. Some parents wanted to set up a meeting with Dr.  Alaniz to have more information about what’s best for their sons/daughters’ future.

While parents and students were being served, there was a performance by the South Texas College Music Club. The food was served by Tia Lola’s Restaurant from Alamo. Mrs. Remigio was the sponsor of the cake for the night.

Before the night was over, parents and students played Loteria Mexicana. Every round was intense, and everyone wanted to win. There were many laughs and giggles from parents, students, and professors.
