STC STARR County Campus – Girls Discovering Math

Wednesday, September 20, 2023, the club participated in the STC Student Activities Recruitment Fair. Nine members rotated at the table throughout the event that lasted from 11 AM-1 PM. That same day, at 1 PM the club had their first meeting with 15 previous/new members.  Students received pizza and chips while a meeting with ideas for the semester were discussed including adding a Vice President and Social Media Manager to the club. During the meeting, the club president talked to some members, and they will be creating study groups based on major and/or classes they are taking. The Starr County Campus ASCENDER Club is currently having a fundraiser for Noche de Familia and the Girls Discovering Math Blub will be collaborating with them.

Thursday, October 5, 2023 the club conducted its second-semester meeting.  They had a total of 15 students participating. Some of the things discussed were: Shirts Order, New Officers: with three new social media managers and a Vice President, Food Drive for November, fundraisers for the Club. Matea Vazquez, electrical engineer and STC Math faculty presented for the students on her journey to become an electrical engineer and math faculty. 

Wednesday, October 18, 2023 the club gathered to watch Hidden Figures.
