SAC HOSTS “SARAPE CELEBRATION FOR GRADUATES

San Antonio College (SAC) hosted a “Sarape Celebration” for its Ascender program graduates on May 17 from 3-5 pm, bringing together students, faculty, families, and friends to honor the achievements of the graduates. Ascender Faculty “hooded” the graduates with the Sarape as a unique recognition

The Sarape Celebration at SAC provided a platform for the Ascender program graduates to showcase their accomplishments while embracing San Antonio’s cultural heritage. The Ascender program aims to support first-generation college students, providing them with resources, guidance, and mentorship throughout their academic journey. This celebration served as a testament to their hard work, resilience, and dedication.

“As a first-generation college graduate myself, I’m very proud of our students and am grateful to their families. This is a huge accomplishment and is the beginning of many more recognitions in their careers!” said Dr. Joan J. Jaimes, Director for Ascender at SAC.

“Planning and coordinating this event was very fun and inspiring. It was great to see so many people come together to celebrate our students’ success,” said Cynthia Escatel, Academic Program Specialist for Ascender.
