Yolanda Manzano is originally from Port Isabel, and she began moving north from the Rio Grande Valley after high school. Her formal education began at St. Mary’s University where she completed a BA studying Secondary Mathematics and Physics Education. From there she moved north to attend Baylor University where she completed a MS in Mathematics and published her thesis “A Matrix Approach to Quantum Mechanics.” Yolanda went on to study Curriculum and Instruction and received an MEd from the University of Texas at Arlington. She currently teaches mathematics at Dallas College’s Richland Campus.
Manzano’s Teaching Philosophy: “I seek to empower students to better understand themselves and their world through mathematics. Students are challenged to be intellectually vulnerable, putting forth their best effort while recognizing that struggle is a key component of learning and growth. We use support systems (tutoring, office hours, study groups, online resources, etc.) knowing that even professional mathematicians rarely work on problems alone. We find joy in discovery and learning, appreciating the profound power of our diverse learning community. New, challenging concepts are approached with courage and authenticity as we work together to achieve our goals.”
