Sophia Salgado

Sophia Salgado is a Tejana and an Instructor of English at Palo Alto College in San Antonio, Texas. She is also the Director of CTN-Ascender at PAC. She earned her BA and MA in English at Texas A&M University – San Antonio. Her conference and seminar presentations as a graduate student were titled, “Contesting Borders: Dance and the Moving Body” and “Multi-Ethnic Literature: An Analysis and Essay.” Her most recent work, “Dynamics of Movement – Tejana Representation and Inclusion in the Dance Community,” was featured in ¡Somos Tejanas! Chicana Identity and Culture in Texas (UT Press 2025). She has been a guest speaker for the Puente Program and is the founder/director of a women’s Tejano music dance team called ¡Viva Tejana! Dance Company. Her research interests include dance, rural cultural studies, and language acquisition.
