Prior to working for Dallas College, Lupe worked at Vickery Meadow Youth Development Center as an Assistant Director for their EAGLE Scholars Program. Her EAGLE Scholars have been awarded over $200,000 in scholarships, including six Terry Scholarship recipients. Lupe also served as the Assistant Director for the University of Texas at Arlington’s Dallas Recruitment Office and their TRiO Educational Opportunity Center (EOC). Meeting students and their families where they are at and helping them understand the different options they have to earning a higher education, applying for financial aid and scholarships are Lupe’s passion. Her and her team worked on translating documents to make the information more accessible to Spanish speaking families.
Lupe is a Dallas native and has four siblings. Her parents are from Mexico and visiting family as a child opened her eyes to the magic that is alive in the Mexican culture. She graduated from University of Texas at Austin. There she fell in love with her Mexican American Studies classes and received her Bachelors of Arts in Ethnic Studies in 2002. She found beauty in her bi-cultural upbringing and discovered the importance of deliberately creating diverse spaces for everyone. While at UT Austin, she participated in many cultural events and discovered traditions that had been left behind. Guadalupe wishes to honor the culture of her grandparents and parents by sharing these experiences with others, including her eight nieces and nephews
