Dr. Lillian Marie Huerta is the former Director of Service-Learning & Civic Engagementat Austin Community College (ACC) and currently serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Departments of General Studies and Student Development and the Department of Philosophy, Religion & Humanities. She also has been a visiting scholar at The University of Texas at Austin in the Department of Latin American Studies and the Department of Russian, European & Eurasian Studies.
Dr. Huerta serves as a committee member to promote Mexican American Studies, Global Studies, and Peace and Conflict Studies at ACC. She was a faculty fellow for the Global Citizenship Alliance held in Potsdam, Germany which addresses human rights in academic curriculums. Dr. Huerta was also a faculty fellow for the Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies at Notre Dame University.
In addition, Dr. Huerta serves as a student mentor in ACC’s Ascender Program and served in ACC’s TACHE Mentorship role working with student TACHE scholarship recipients. She is also a member of the Council on American-Islamic Relations and The National Congress of American Indians. She volunteers with local non-profits teaching ESL, GED, and Citizenship classes.
Dr. Huerta is a first-generation college graduate who is a strong advocate for student success and the promotion of social justice amongst marginalized communities.
Her mission as a professor and as a member of the college campus community, is to serve on initiatives that work towards ensuring that current and future students, regardless of background, are made to feel valued and most of all, empowered to become life-long learners and social agents of change.
