CTN CONDUCTS FALL SITE VISITS

CTN began conducting fall site visits in late October and continued through early December. The site visits began with Dr. Chavez and Debra McBeath visiting Diane Lerma’s EDUC 1300 class and Melissa Elston’s English class at Palo Alto College. Instructor Lerma took her students to the transfer fair on campus to allow them to get information from various four-year institutions. Instructor Elston’s English students were working in groups for peer review of their writing.

Next Dr. Castillo, Stacy Ibarra and Debra McBeath visited Austin Community College’s Riverside, Hays. Highland and South Austin campuses. Instructor Ann Fletcher’s English students were working in small groups on the topic of writing a literary critique. Professor Padilla-Lopez’s EDUC 1300 lesson covered soft skills. Instructor Allegra Villarreal’s English students were learning about academic argument and logical fallacies. Instructor Helen Dailey’s EDUC 1300 class was reviewing for a test with a game competition amongst their families. Instructor Granillo’s EDUC 1300 class was taking notes on note taking. Instructor Ackers’ EDUC 1300 students worked in groups on post-it posters to track their progress in their educational journey.

Debra McBeath observed Instructor Laura Coleman’s English class which is linked with Instructor Jeanette Bunch’s EDUC 1300 class at San Antonio College. The cohort in Instructor Coleman’s class were discussing specific chapters in the novel “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” and in Instructor Bunch’s class, the same students were presenting their Mission Statement along with a corresponding project.

Debra McBeath and Ralph Castillo also observed Daisy Carmona’s EDUC 1300 class at Northeast Lakeview College in San Antonio. Her students were presenting their Mission statements, as part of their final exam.

Site visitors also met with various administrators on the campuses to discuss data, mentoring, team meetings and campus activities such as university tours and club activities.
