Her educational journey began in a small Texas-Mexico border town (Eagle Pass) where she was fortunate that her high school offered health science technology education courses. After having taken several of these classes taught by an amazing nurse who served as a mentor to her and doing a summer internship at the local hospital, she set her sights on medical school.
