From Co-requisites to Pathways: Best Practices in Advising from Texas Community Colleges
In the September 2019 Teaching and Learning for Student Success webinar, Dr. Tina Jackson, Dr. Catherine Olivarez, and department chair, Julie Wauchope, address the importance of Guided Pathways for Student Success, how it relates to co-requisite advising, and how academic departments can work with advisors to ensure students are placed according to their pathways into courses that suit their college and career goals. Each presenter offers best practices from her own institution, with Dr. Olivarez representing Dallas County Community College District, Dr. Jackson from Collin County College, and Wauchope from Austin Community College. "From Co-requisites to Pathways" addresses a broad range of issues from Math pathways and placement to how Integrated Reading and Writing courses may be aligned as co-requisite offerings for majors from liberal arts to marketing to business and career-technical education programs.
