CTN DIRECTOR OF STUDENT ENGAGEMENT,

YBARRA, PUBLISHES IN SA EXPRESS NEWS

CTN Director of Student Engagement, Stacy Ybarra, published an opinion commentary in the San Antonio Express News titled “College entrance exams fail students.” Ybarra discusses the “growing number of colleges and universities that have become disenchanted with assessment instruments that were economically biased against low-income and first-generation college students.” She states her belief that the SATs and ACTSs do more harm than good and uses her personal success story to illustrate her point. She also discusses her work with students who, like her, did not fare well on the standardized tests, “I’ve mentored hundreds of students whose marginal scores and academic preparation were dismal but who succeeded with a little push, learning successful study habits, and having a network of support and mentoring. The data-driven Catch the Next Inc., a college-preparatory program that I work with as a consultant, encourages passion, cariño and excellence in learning.”
